The Importance Of Physical Activity And Nutrition

It is essential for every human being to understand the importance of physical activity and nutrition. Exercise and diet play a major role in contributing to health and quality of life. â€Å"Not only is 1 in every 8 Americans older than 65 years, but a person aged 65 can expect to live an average of 18 more years (Drewnowski, 2001).† The fact that people are living longer involves many factors, however, taking care of ourselves is an essential one. While each of the two are vital together they also go in depth individually. First, physical activity is any body movement performed by the skeletal muscles that expands energy. Physical activity has many benefits including increase in cardiovascular endurance which is the body’s ability to circulate blood supply necessary components to keep us going during physical activity. Components such as lipid profile and insulin sensitivity improve as well. It also decreases death rate along with body fat and weight. Physical activi ty maintains bone mass while increasing muscle mass and strength. This also improves sleep and cognitive function. When most people hear physical activity they think exercise, but exercise has many mechanisms along with it. Exercise is repetitive body movement accomplished to maintain or improve physical fitness components that are structured and planned.
